Apprehension and Persuasion: Wedding Gown

After much worry over the wedding gown, Pia got hold of it a little more than a week before the wedding. Noticing some minor stains, she had the gown dry-cleaned. At the cleaners, she made it crystal clear that she will pick it up in the evening of 11 January 2010.

So, in the early evening of 11 January 2010, Mike went to the cleaners to get Pia's wedding gown.  There was one problem however. They could'nt find it.

Since Mike had to buy something, he decided to leave and let the cleaner's staff looked for the wedding gown.  Mike was confident they would find it and told Pia what happened. Pia started to worry.

Later at around 8 p.m., Mike went back to the cleaners.   At the cleaners, Mike was told that they have located the wedding gown. But there was bad news:  It was brought to the main branch in Antipolo for cleaning AND the pick-up date was erroneously scheduled in the evening of 12 January 2010, the night before the wedding!

The staff, though apologetic, could only suggest that they just deliver the gown first thing in the morning.  Mike called Pia over the phone and relayed the information.  Pia then talked to the cleaner's staff over the phone. Unknown to Mike, Pia was already furious and threatening to file a complaint.

After Pia's conversation with the staff, Mike again tried to explain their situation to the staff.  Despite everything however, Mike was told that they could not possibly have the gown delivered that night.  The driver had left already, and there was no way to contact him.

At this point, Mike decided to have a more "serious" talk with the cleaner's staff.

First he took down the names of those involved, carefully writing them down.  He took down the following names: (a) the staff on duty at the time the gown was deposited, (b) the staff on duty that night, (c) the plant suppervisor and (d) the driver who will be bringing the gown from Antipolo the following day.

Mike then asked to speak to the Antipolo supervisor over the phone.  Very carefully repeating all the names, he asked if the names he wrote down were correct.  He then repeated what was suggested and agreed upon: (name of driver) would safely bring the gown from Antipolo to Paranaque and they would have it by 9 a.m. the next day.

Mike then asked if this was correct. The supervisor said yes. He asked if this was clear. The supervisor said yes.

Mike then gave the supervisor his cellphone number- in case something happens...  Then he gave Pia's number.  He asked if the supervisor had written it down.  The supervisor said yes.  Then Mike gave his office telephone number.

He instructed the supervisor to make sure it was written down correctly.  He then added that in case they could not be contacted for any reason, she was supposed to call his office, look for his secretary and leave a message for Atty. Gan.

For the last time, Mike asked if the supervisor got what he said.  She said yes.  Mike hung up the phone.  Mike then left the cleaners empty-handed for the second time.

An hour or so later, Pia received a call from the cleaners.  The wedding gown was now ready for pick up.
